“Those two are the men we followed to South America!” They soon left, and with two girls of their own.

“I recognize those two.” Noah said. “They’re girls from the Amazon camp!!”

“Right! Now I remember them. I wasn’t used to seeing them dressed like that!” Kristin stated.

“I think I’ll go have a chat with our friendly neighborhood bartender.” I said, getting up. “Excuse me, ladies.” I walked over to the bartender, and leaned over onto the bar.

“What’ll it be?” He asked, cleaning out a glass.

“What do you know about those two who just left?”

“Who? The dames, or the fellas?”

“Either.”

“Let’s let them decide.” Noah said, looking at Kristin with a smile. We walked over to them, and Noah said, “All righty now. It’s up for you girls to decide who you want to be your date.”

“Him.” They both said at the same time, pointing to me. I shrugged my shoulders and looked at him. It was decided that Kristin and I were to go together, and Noah and Katie would be the other couple. The girls did look a bit older than they really were, and we looked a bit younger, which balanced us out.

In the car on the way over Noah and I sat in the front, while the two girls sat in the back. “They were just trying to make you feel good, you know. I know that Kristin wanted to pick me, but she knows that you expect her to pick you because she’s your daughter.” Noah said.

“Well, Noah, if you’re that concerned, why don’t you use NLP 2.1 on Katie when we get there?”

“Are you crazy! She’d be all over me, what with that increasing part.”

“Whoa, I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.” I commented. “Okay, we’re going over to Noah’s house at six and we won’t be back until ten tonight. You’d better tell your parents that you’ll be spending the night here. We’ll grab some clothes for you on our way over to Noah’s house.”

“Thanks, Dad.” Kristin said. They both took off to pick out what they were going to wear, and to get all giddy about tonight. Kids, I thought, what are you going to do with them?

The time came for us to drive over to Katie’s house, and I went with her to make sure that it was okay with her parents. We walked up to the door of this one story house, and she opened the door. Walking inside, I saw her mother, who kindly offered me something to eat. I declined, and went straight to my inquiry. “Is it all right for Katie to spend the night over at my house tonight?”

“I don’t see any problem with that. Now run along and get your things, Katie.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Keyser. She and Kristin are such good friends.”

“You do have a point there.”

“No kidding. Anyway, Kristin’s a smart kid, and quick too. I think that she could help us a lot.”

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, er, umm, I mean, house, Kristin and Katie were having a conversation of their own. “I just don’t understand it. One day he is determined to get the Glowing Gem no matter what the cost. The next, he’s quit the detective business altogether.” Kristin stated.

“Hmm. That does seem strange. And where is he this afternoon?” Katie replied.

“He’s over at Noah’s house.”

“Oh. Where’s Tricia and Tracy?”

“Tracy’s back home, or that is at least what Dad told me. I don’t know where Tricia is at all.”

“If I didn’t know them better, I’d think that they were keeping something from us.” Katie said.

The rest of the week flew by, until it came to Saturday. I went to phone, and dialed Noah’s number. “Are you ready?” I asked him.

“I guess.” He replied. “I didn’t think that we’d start until tonight.”

“Well, this thing’s going to take some planning. I figured that we would go over what we are going to do tonight this afternoon. Just think. You and I, together once more.”

“Just like the good old days.” Noah said. As he said this, Kristin came down the stairs.

“No girls. Just you, me, and the job.”

“Who are you talking to, Dad?” Kristin asked.
