“Don’t get me started.”
“Okay. Come on, I have something to show you.”
“Can we stop by the complex? I have to return this uniform, A.S.A.P.” I drove her to the apartment where she changed and came back out. I took the uniform in, because she pleaded with me. I got into the car and drove to the office. I told her that she had to close her eyes, and I led her inside. I turned on the lights and she looked around. “WOW, what did you do to this place?”
“I just cleaned up a little. By the way, do you know anyone who is looking for a job? I could use a secretary.”
“I could do it.”
“You?”
“Yes, before I worked at the museum, I was a secretary at City Hall.”
“Okay, you’ve got the job. Unfortunately, I can’t promise a big salary, seeing that I’m broke. But, I have a case, and if you will follow me, Miss Secretary, I think we may get some money.”
We left the office and went to the car rental place on First and Green. Once inside Tricia said, “Hey, that’s Michelle Warner!”
“Michelle who?”
“You know, from church! Back in Great Neck!”
“Oh, yeah!” I said, as we approached the desk.
“Hello. Welcome to Nano Car Dealership.” Michelle said.
“Michelle, it’s me, Tricia! Don’t you remember?”
“Tricia? Oh, from Harristown! How can I help you?”
“The Palette of Leonardo da Vinci was stolen. The people that got away were driving a car form this place?” I asked.
“Yes, the Police called about that yesterday. The car was rented not four days ago. Although it has been reported stolen by the two people who rented it.”
“Thanks, if you hear anything, please let me know.” Unfortunately I had given my only business card in print to Kate, and therefore, I could not give one to Michelle. I wrote down the number and started to leave.
“Hey Adam, can I stay here and talk with Michelle for a while?”
“Sure, call me when you’re done.” I exited the building and went to my car. Remembering something, I went back inside. “Was there anything wrong with the car?” I asked Michelle, who was standing by a big window showing Tricia something.
“Let me check.” She said. Returning to the desk she looked up the license plate number. “Yes. It leaked oil.”
“Thanks.” I again said, leaving. I returned to my apartment and went inside to find Noah sleeping. The phone rang. I picked it up. “Hello.”
“Hello, Adam? This is Kate.”
“Kate! What’s up?”
“Matt and Noelle have just come into McDuncans and are eating food inside.”
“Thanks.” Turning and seeing Noah asleep, I picked up the phone and dialed Laura’s phone number. “Hello, can I speak to Laura?”
“One moment please.” I heard someone say.
“Hello?” I heard Laura say.
“Noah wanted me to tell you to meet him at McDuncans in five minutes.”
