“Who is this?”
“This is Adam, you know, Noah’s Best Man!”
“Thank you, bye.” I hung up and shouted, “NOAH, WAKE UP!”
“Yeah, what?!” He asked, sitting straight up.
“I need you to go to McDuncans.”
“Adam, it’s four, isn’t it a little early to be hungry?”
“I need you to track Matt and Noelle.”
“Matt and Noelle who?”
“Okay, when you get there, look for a short blond headed girl, I’ll call her and tell her to look for you. She will show you who Matt and Noelle are. Follow them when they leave, and tell me where they go.”
“Why should I?”
“I told Laura to meet you there.”
“All right.” Noah got up and left. I telephoned Kate and gave her Noah’s description. I settled down for a nap. I was awakened by a phone call. I answered it.
“Hello, is this Adam C. Schoolfield?”
“THAT’S SCHOFIELD! And, how do you know my middle initial?”
“Let’s just call it a lucky guess. I’m calling from the Car Dealership. I have here two young ladies who would like to have a word with you.” I heard the phone being moved from the man’s mouth.
“Adam, this is Tricia.”
“Tricia!” I exclaimed.
“Please listen to him. He has Michelle and I captive in the Dealership. Everyone has left…”
“That’s enough!” I heard him say. “Listen, I’ve seen your people tracking me from McDuncans, and I want them called off, or else these girls stay with me!”
“That’s impossible, I have no way to talk to them!”
“Is that so? Well you had better find a way, and fast. In one hour, one of these girls is going to have a terrible accident, get the picture? And I wouldn’t try calling the cops either!” I then heard a dial tone. I quickly looked up the number of the pay phone outside the Dealership and called it. Finally someone answered.
“Hello?” The voice said.
“Hi, Noah?” I asked.
“No, this is Dwain.”
“Dwain who?”
“Dwain the bathtub. I’m Drowning!”
“Very funny. Do you see a car out in front of the Dealership, sir?”
“Yeah, reckon I do.”
“Could you ask the man in the car to come to the phone please?”
“What is this? Totally Embarrassing Video?”
“No, this is a hostage crisis and I need to talk to him.”
“Yes sir.” After a little while I heard someone else on the phone.
“Adam, is that you?”
“It is. Do you know what’s going on inside the Dealership?”
“No, what?”
“A HOSTAGE CRISIS!!!!”
