In The Pits – Page 6

â€All right, let me get my uniform.“ I went and got it. We went to the gym where I retrieved a volleyball from the rack and came out to the net. â€All right, we’ll play two on two. Tricia and I against you and Marie,“ I said to Andy. Andy Basinger is a friend of mine from college. He is a lawyer, and his wife, Marie, is a school teacher. We drilled each other pretty good. Although no score was kept, I thought that we were winning. It came time for the others to play and we won a hard fought game, 4 to 1. I invited Andy and Marie upstairs to my apartment, along with Tricia.
â€We’d be delighted.“ Andy said. Marie kinda giggled and skipped along. We all went to my apartment where I offered them some pink lemonade, and we all sat and talked. â€Did you hear the latest news on that Purloined Palette?“
â€Purloined Palette?“ I asked.
â€Yes, the stolen da Vinci Palette. It was returned yesterday!“Â
â€You used to work there, didn’t you Tricia?“ Marie inquired.
â€Yes, until the Palette was stolen.“ Tricia replied.
“Which time?â€Â Andy asked.
“What do you mean, which time?â€
“Well, the first time was last week, the second was last night!â€
“Last night?â€
“Yes. The burglar came in at about seven, and stole the Palette.â€
“You’re kidding!â€Â Tricia said.
“No, I’m afraid he isn’tâ€Â Marie added. “Police are baffled.â€
“Could it be Matt and Noelle again?â€Â Tricia said.
“No, they were having dinner with us last night at seven, remember?â€Â I responded.
“Could it be they were just pretending to have dinner with you, for an alibi?â€Â Andy inquired.
“Yes, it most certainly could! Well, it looks like I’m going to have to earn my salary.â€
“What do you mean?â€
“I have that case.â€
“Good luck! They say that it is impossible for anyone to catch the culprits!â€Â We ate lunch and Andy and Marie returned to their home. Tricia went to her apartment to change for the wedding and I changed also. It was half an hour before the wedding when Tricia returned.
