“I never knew you could play like that.”

“Yeah, I’ve been taking lessons since I was a kid.”  Everyone had left, so Tricia and I left too.

“Is there any more work to be done at Noah’s house?”

“Yes, some furniture needs to be moved and clothes to be put in the dressers.”

“Can I be of assistance?”

“I could use all the help I can get.”  We left and went to Noah’s house. We cleaned a little, and I moved furniture. We went back to her apartment together and went inside.

“Whew!  I’ll be glad when this day is through.”  Tricia said.

“Me too. I’ll also be glad when Noah and Laura get back.”

“I wonder what they’re doing now.”

“Probably they’re on a beach somewhere.”

“Or out playing basketball.”

“You know, this case has me completely baffled.”  I said, changing the subject.

“How so?”

“Well, the thief left no traces, nothing!  It’s the perfect crime.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive. There’s not a clue to be found.”

“Are Matt and Noelle still around.”

“No, I was by their house and the caretaker said that they had left, and were selling the house.”  I said, leaving out the part about them going to visit Noah and Laura.

“That’s funny. Did Noah happen to leave a place where he could be reached with you?  I have to ask Laura about where a few things go.”

“No, you?”

“No, how about his beeper?”

“Now who would go on a honeymoon and bring his beeper?!”

“Right. So what shall we do to keep ourselves from being bored?”

“I don’t know, what do you want to do?”

“Well, I would like to go to the beach.”

“Okay, we’ll go tomorrow.”

“Think again, you scheduled practice tomorrow.”

“Oh, that’s right!  How about Saturday?”

“Saturday would be fine. It’s almost time to eat, let me fix you something.”

“Fine.”  At that moment, someone burst in the door and started firing a machine gun, chest high. I dove for Tricia, knocking her behind a couch, where I shot the machine gunner. We got out from behind the couch to examine the gunner.

“Is he. . . alive?”

“No, I’m afraid not.”  I said, after checking for a pulse. “I don’t understand, I hit him in the arm!”

“But that’s crazy!”

“I know.”  I called the police, and they took the body away.

“I don’t know if I feel safe in here.”
