When I awoke, I found myself in strange surroundings. Getting up, I felt a strange bed underneath me. To my right was a calendar showing that today was April 20, 1981. Somebody’s trying to play a joke on me, I thought. I threw off my covers and tumbled out of bed. I walked over to a closet where I found suits that looked about my size, and a tuxedo. I got dressed casually and left the room. I stumbled down the stairs, went into the kitchen, and yawned while stretching. To my surprise, Noah, Dan, Craig, and his wife, Bette, were all sitting at the kitchen table. “Good morning! Was there something special planned for today?” I asked, trying to pretend that I knew it was a joke.
“Something special!” Noah answered. “Oh, no Adam. Nothing special.”
“Well, excuse me,” Bette said, standing, “But I must be leaving.” All the gentlemen stood while she left.
“Where’s Bette going?” I asked Craig.
“To get ready for the wedding.” He answered. Oh, so that’s why I have that tuxedo! I thought.
“It’s at one, right Adam?” Dan asked.”
“Of course.” I said, pretending I knew.
“I’ll be by to pick you up at twelve fifteen.” Noah said.
“Thanks.” I joined them in breakfast, we ate, and they left when we had finished. I went into the kitchen. Inside was a lady dressed in a maid’s uniform.
“Is there something you need, sir?”
“No. . .Karin?!”
“Yes, sir?”
“Oh, nothing.” It was my cousin, Karin. That’s funny. Going outside, I noticed that this was the same house as Matt and Noelle’s. Boy, this is some gag, what with the calendar and the house switch. I laid around most of the morning, trying to figure out how to play a better joke on those jokers. I ate at 11:30 for some strange reason. Karin was pushing me to eat and get ready. I went upstairs and put on my tuxedo.
Twelve fifteen rolled around, and Noah was prompt. “A limousine!?” I asked him. “You would think that I was the groom!” Noah laughed and drove to a church. I exited the limo to see my parent’s car also parked outside. Princess Diana must be getting married here today to get my parents to come! I thought. I entered the building.
A half an hour later the wedding began. The men were positioned to the minister’s left, myself, Noah, Craig, and Dan, respectively. On the minister’s right was Kendall Owens, Laura, some girl I didn’t know (which somebody idetified later as Kristin, my daughter?!), and Bette. The organist started playing the Wedding March. I nudged the minister. “Where’s the groom?” I asked.
“Shh! We’re on video tape!” The minister said. The bride-to-be came down the aisle. The minister turned to his left and moved me forward a bit. The father of the bride kissed his daughter and gave his permission for her marriage. He then sat down. The minister had me hold the bride-to-be’s hand. I must be the best man. I thought, The groom’s probably late, and he told us to go on. I played along. We walked up some stairs and onto the platform. He got to the part about asking, “if any man has some reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, let him speak now, or forever hold his peace.”
