“Well, our present is that around the clock someone will always be with you until you get out of that cast.”
“Well, thanks.”
“Honey, I think I’ll take first shift.” Laura said.
“Okay. Don’t be too vicious with him.” Noah said, leaving.
“Fine. Are you comfortable?”
“Yes, thanks.” I answered. We sat there for a long time, saying nothing.
“Well, Adam. I don’t think I got to congratulate you on your solving of this case.”
“You’re welcome. You know, it really isn’t my business, but you should get a girlfriend. I know the sweetest girl from back . . .”
“Laura.”
“Yes?”
“Not to be mean, but this last girl you hooked me up with got me into all this mess.”
“Oh. Sorry.”
“Has the palette been safely returned to the museum?”
“Yes, it is currently being checked for damages.”
“Oh well.”
“What?”
“Well, I just thought about what you said, and you’re right.”
“Then you’ll give my friend a try!”
“No. I mean, I’ll try a little harder. I’ll find my own wife, if you don’t mind.”
“Oh.” She said, in closing. Again a long period of silence past.
At the end of two days, and many rotations of friends, I found that I was being moved to my new home on the outskirts of town. Once inside, the doctor moved me to a sofa in the living room. “I have assigned Nurse Hannah to assist in your recovery. I have found you have the necessary tools on the premises and she will help you on a rigorous training program that will have you back in shape in no time.”
“When does my training begin?”
“In seven weeks. For now, Nurse Hannah will move in with you. She will be your around the clock health supervisor.”
“Where is she?”
“Nurse!! Come in here please.” Nurse Hannah walked in. “Nurse, here is your patient. Take good care of him.”
“I will, Doctor.” The Doctor showed his own way out and Nurse Hannah came over to me on the sofa.
“Nurse, can I call you Hannah?”
“If you’d like. I think we’ll move you upstairs to your bed.”
“Karin, could you come help Hannah and I get upstairs?”
“Your bed is upstairs?”
“Yes.”
“Well, I think you’ll have to be moved into a bedroom downstairs.”
“Awe.” There was a knock on the door, and Karin went and got it.
“Sir, it’s Marie.” Karin stated.
