It was a hot day in the small town of Nanopolis. The name’s Schofield, Adam Schofield. I was asleep at my house, and having the strangest dream. I dreamt that I was in the future. I saw someone, I don’t know who, coming into my office. This someone was of great importance.
Getting up that morning, I got dressed, and limped to the bathroom. I did the necessities and approached the room across the hall from my own. There, my secretary resides until a nagging cold, which she got in my last adventure, subsides. “Good morning, Hannah.” I said, to the nurse who was watching Tricia. The nurse’s name was Hannah Throckmorton . She was helping me on my recovery before Tricia’s accidental cold.
“Good morning, Tricia’s still asleep. What do you plan on doing this morning?”
“I’m going down to the office.”
“The office, why?”
“I have to do something there.”
“Well, I’ll go with you, Karin can watch . .”
“No, No. I want you here just in case Tricia wakes up. I’ll take Karin along with me.”
“Oh, I guess there’s no reasoning with you.”
“Thanks.” I said. She smiled and I left the room.
I went in the kitchen for breakfast. “Good morning!” chimed the maid, Karin, as I came down the front stairs of my house. “What do you plan on doing this fine Wednesday morning?”
“Someone is coming to my office today.” I responded.
“How do you know that?”
“I just know.”
“Did Hannah say you could go?”
“Only if you went with me.”
“I’d be glad to help, but I need to change. You eat your breakfast, and I’ll be right back.” I sat down and ate a delicious breakfast of pancakes. Karin came back, and I escorted her to the car. I had a strange feeling that I should not go to the office on this, my last day of recovery, but something prodded me onward.
It was a regular morning; the stars came out from behind a group of billowy clouds. I pulled my car up to the building on the corner of Fifth and Maple. We got out of the car, and I locked it. Upon entering the building, I saw a door marked, Adam Schofield, Private Eye. I walked over to the door and opened it, ushering Karin in first. “It looks like it’s just you and I.” I stated.
“I’ll stay out here and clean up the desk.” I thanked her and made my way into my office. Once inside, I turned on the light switch, and looked around. I saw the disarray of garbage thrown there by Noah, who was filling in for me while I was recovering. I went to my chair and sat down, after pushing away Noah’s stuff. I looked through the mountain of phone messages. None of them were too important. I raised my window shade and discovered that the sun was rising. It was August 26, 1980. I had come back to my office that day to meet someone, someone that I saw in a dream! Now that I think about it, it’s crazy!
