“Yes, what would that be?” Tricia asked.

“Could you help us with a stake out tonight? All you have to do is to take this camera, and photograph anyone who leaves the building after we stake it out. You could stay in your car and do it,” I answered.

“Isn’t it too dark for pictures?”

“Not with Noah’s super night-vision camera it isn’t!”

“I should have known! Okay,” she replied. We sat around and discussed everyone’s job for the night. It was eight thirty when we left my house. Everyone went to their assigned positions.

After a while I heard a muffled scream coming from the room I was guarding. I walked up to the door and knocked on it. I repeated the knocking several times. Finally, I kicked down the door and entered. I saw signs of a struggle. The sheets of the bed in the room were mangled. I also saw a night gown on the ground and a swinging coat hanger. I determined from this that the occupant changed clothes before she disappeared.

I ran to the next room, the room where Jacie was staying. I knocked on the door. There was no reply. I tried again. Still nothing. I panicked and burst through the door. I called, “TRACY,” as loud as I could.

“What is it?” Jacie asked.

“The occupant of the room next door is gone. Did you hear anything?”

“I heard a scream, and then it was as if there was nothing there. Then I heard something moving, that’s all.”

“I’ll go check with Dan and Tricia. Here take this,” I said. I handed her a small box.

“What’s this for?”

“If you need me, just press the button. Keep the doors locked. I’ll call you in the morning.”

“Okay,” she said. With that I exited the room and went to find Dan, who was at the bottom of the stairs.

“What are you doing? Aren’t you supposed to be waiting for the disappearance to occur?” He asked.

“It already has happened! You didn’t see anything?” I asked.

“No, no one but you came down those steps.”

“Let’s go see if Tricia’s got anything,” I said. We went out to the car where Tricia was stationed.

“Nope, no one has left the building except you two that I could see!” Tricia said. She sneezed.

“Well we won’t find anything in the dark, and I think we awoke the security guards. Let’s call it a night, return to our houses and have a good night’s sleep. Maybe that will help us figure this puzzle out.”

“Good idea,” said Dan, yawning. We all hopped into my car. I dropped my friends off at their house, and continued on.

“What do you think of your client, Adam?” Tricia asked. She blew her nose.

“I don’t know.” I replied.

“I think you like her. I can see it in your eyes.”
