The Game Ends: The Mystery Unfolds – Page 1

Five hours past, Dan took us to the location of his flag. It was hidden under a rock by the lake. We took it to the flag pole, and raised it. We all went inside, where we all took turns in the shower. After everyone was done, we met in the dining room. “This dinner commemorates the first Capture the Flag game at this new house. The winners were Team B which included: From the original list: Adam, Noah, Marie, and Jacie. From capture: Dan, Tracy, Tricia, and Andy. Team A was made up of: Laura, David, Karin, and Hannah.” They awed and congratulated accordingly.
“I would like to say, this was more than a game. This was a test. It was to perfect our teamwork and get us working as a team. It may be important in the days ahead. So, go ahead and get a bite to eat, then I suggest that Jacie should put back on the Tracy-make-up, and Tracy-wear, and then go back to the apartment. All the rest of us should get a goodnight’s sleep, for tomorrow is Sunday.” We ate and all retired. The next morning, we pretended it was business as usual.
It was Sunday morning. I arose from my bed, got dressed and went to the bathroom. As I tried to open the door, the door knob would not open. “I don’t think I’ll ever get use to this,” I mumbled under my breath. I went downstairs to see the progress of breakfast.
“Good Morning!” Karin said. “How are you this morning?”
“Okay, I guess,” I replied.
“Miss Martin will be down in a moment. Here,” she said, handing me a dish with toast and jam on it, “please take this to the dining room for me.” What’s this, I thought, I don’t normally have to take things to the dining room!
As I made my way to the dining room, Tricia came rushing down the stairs, “It’s Sunday!!” This she exclaimed as she bumped the dish. I looked down at my now covered shirt. It had toast and jam all over me. “Oh, Sorry,” she said. She offered to help me clean it off. I told her that I would take care of it. I went upstairs to the bathroom. As I approached the bathroom I saw what looked to be a streak of lightning before my eyes. I went to the bathroom door and I heard it lock. I went into my room and changed my clothes.
When I went back to the kitchen Karin said, “What took you so long? Here,” she said as she handed me a tray of pancakes, already covered with syrup, “put these out there also.” I tried to say something but instead she cut me off by saying, “Thanks!” I again, fearlessly headed toward the dining room. Tricia came dashing by and I whirled around just in time to catch Tracy, rushing down the steps. She knocked the tray of pancakes, syrup and all, all over me.
“Why? Why?” I asked.
“I’ll help you.” Tracy said. She ran and grabbed a wet rag. She started dabbing it on my shirt until my whole shirt was wet.
“Tracy, dear, please, if you really want to help. . .”
“Yes.”
“Wait until I take the shirt off!!”
