“They’re his.”

“He looks like a nice guy.”

“Well, he can be, at times. His favorite game is V-Ball. I can’t understand why.”

She looked at him, “I like volleyball.”

“Well– I, um– never said that there was anything wrong with volleyball. Yeah, it’s a good sport.” Noah tried to cover his blunder.

“Didn’t you just take out of Adam’s book that you thought volleyball was okay?” David asked. Noah elbowed him in the stomach.

“Well. That was a long time ago!” Noah assured her.

Totally oblivious to what he had just said, she asked, “He wrote a book?”

“Writing. It’s about his first adventure. He calls it ‘The Mystery of the Purloined Palette.’”

Blonde Girl “Interesting. Can I see it?” Jocelyn inquired.

“I guess. Follow me.” Noah took her into the computer room, turned on the computer, and loaded the file. “There you go. I hope you don’t get too bored.” Jocelyn turned to him, smiled, and then started to read about my adventure.

Walking back into the living room, David said to Noah, “It looks like you’re losing your touch!”

“Nonsense. When she reads about what I did in there, it’ll all be over.”

As they walked into the living room, Jessica and Sara came down the stairs, wearing shorts and tee-shirts with towels around their necks. “Where are you two going?” David asked.

“Oh, we’d thought we’d go downstairs and try out the pool,” Sara said.

“Oh,” Noah said.

“Yeah. We always went swimming on the island.” Jessica replied.

“I hope it’s been heated!” David replied.

“It’s heated?!” Sara exclaimed. “We’ll wait, if it’s not, then.” Looking at Jessica, they appeared to be shocked that it was a heated pool. David walked away to accomplish the task, while the two girls wandered into the music room. Noah followed. “Who plays what?” Sara asked.

“Adam plays a little piano.”

“Oh.” Jessica sat down in front of the piano and Sara picked up a flute. They both played some classical piece that Noah had never heard before. He left them and returned to the living room.

David had returned from heating the pool, and he bumped into Noah. “Well, the pool should be ready in a few minutes… Where are the girls?” He asked, looking around.

“They’re in the music room.”

“Wow! What an assortment of interests!” David commented. “What are all these talented people doing on that island?”

“They were probably B&O secretaries.”

“But they seem to want to do other things.”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, I’ll go tell them about the pool,” David said as he left. As he was telling the girls about the pool, Connie came down the stairs.

“Hey Noah!” She said.
