“What?”
“There are sharp rocks on the ground!”
“You mean you don’t have shoes on?”
“No! They’re all in the corner, and I didn’t want to wake anyone.”
“Here,” he reached out and lifted her up, her feet draping over his left arm. Carrying her, she directed him to the beach. Once there, he set her down. The moon bounced off of the water, and he was finally able to see her. She was in a long night-gown and had her hair back in a pony-tail. She walked on farther and he followed. “So what do you want?”
“Here’s my plan. First, we have to make sure Steve can’t get off of the island.”
“How does he get on?”
“By a helicopter he has at the main building. Then we rescue Laura, everyone gets freed, and Steve goes to jail.”
“Sounds great.”
“There’s only one hitch.”
“What’s that?”
“Getting everyone out of here at once. They won’t agree to help if they aren’t promised to leave at the same time.”
“Leave that to me,” a voice called from behind a bush. A figure appeared.
“Connie!” Noah exclaimed. He quickly dashed to hide Beth from being identified.
“Shh… I’m not supposed to be here,” Connie said.
“What do you mean?” Noah asked.
“As I was saying, I could take the helicopter back to the main land and get a ship to come out here. That way you could get all the girls off at once.”
“But the remote was taken from David, and–”
“You mean this remote?” Connie asked, taking a remote and showing it to Noah.
“Where did you get that?!”
“Remember, I’m an elite guard. No questions asked.”
“Can we trust her?” Beth asked.
“I don’t think we have a choice,” Noah responded.
“Okay, good. When do we launch our plan?” Connie inquired.
“Fly off and see when the earliest time you can get us a boat, arrange it, and fly back.”
“Gotcha.”
“Good luck,” Noah said. Connie turned around and headed in the opposite direction. “Well, now all we have to do is be ready when she gets back,” Noah said, looking at Beth.
“I’ll get the ones who want to leave together tomorrow afternoon at lunch.” Beth suggested. Noah nodded.
“Ready to go back?”
“I guess so,” Beth replied. Holding her arms out towards Noah, he remembered that he had carried her to the beach.
“Oh, I’d almost forgot.” He reached over and picked her up. He then proceeded to take her back to her tent. She thanked him and snuck inside. Noah returned to his tent and went inside to fall asleep.
