Kristin and I arrived at Utica in the afternoon, local time. We were picked up by my father at the airport, and taken to my old home in Great Neck, New York. “Well, is it good to be back?” My father asked.

“It certainly brings back memories. How’s Tracy doing?” I asked.

“Well, it took her a while to cope with all the emotional frustration that she faced, but she’s doing fine now.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“When do we eat?” Kristin asked.

“As soon as we get home. We’re having spaghetti.” Dad said. Fifteen minutes later, we arrived home, and we pulled up in front of the familiar house, that for many years had been home.

“I’ll have to call Chet when I get inside. I can’t imagine what he wants; I haven’t seen him in years!” I said, exiting the car. The garage was the same as always, cluttered. The other garage stall was empty, leading me to believe that no one was home. Along with Tracy and my Mom, my brother, Steven, and my sister, Becky, were still at home, although they were not presently there. “Where did they go?”

“Oh, Tracy wanted to pick up some new clothes to show you when you got back. Your mother said that they would be back around five.” Dad said. I walked in the house, and nothing looked like it had changed. I walked into my room and saw that someone currently inhabited it.

“Who’s in here?”

“Oh, Tracy moved in when she came. I hope you don’t mind.”

chet “Not at all. At least she keeps it cleaner than I did.” I said. I walked through the room of memories, gazing at familiar objects and things from my past. I led Kristin to the room she would be staying in; Becky had offered to share the room, since they were close to the same age. Kristin stayed in Becky’s room and unpacked. I went to the phone, and called Chet. “Hey, Chet?”

“Yes, is this Adam?”

“Yeah, what’s wrong?”

“Ah, I come back to visit my family, and look what happens. I’m at home and I get a call from this new Drama Director, asking me to come and do lights for the play.”

“So?”

“So! She had me go up on the catwalk, and I got seriously injured.”

“How?”

“Well, you see, I climbed up the ladder, and all of a sudden there was this big gush of wind, coming from this door. Not being able to see, because there was no light, I tripped and fell down the hole where the ladder is.”

“Are you all right now?”

“Yes, but I don’t think I’ll want to go up there again alone.”

“Oh, and so you want me to go with you?”

“That’s the idea.”
