Once inside, I heard the phone ringing off the hook. I picked up the receiver and said, “Hello?”

“Adam, I’ve been trying to reach you all this week!”

“Heather? What’s up?”

“Those two we captured didn’t have the gem, and they had air-tight alibis.”

“Does that mean that they got off?”

“Clean as a whistle. We need you to track down the gem and return it so that we can pin something on those two.”

“All right Heather.” I hung up the phone.

“Who was that?” Tracy asked.

“It was Heather. She says that the two that they captured have air-tight alibis and have gotten out of jail.”

“You’re kidding!”

“Nope, it seems that without the real gem, they have nothing they can pin on those two.” I said, as the phone rang. Karin, who had just come back from changing, answered the phone.

“It’s for you” Karin called. I walked over and answered it.

“Hello, Adam?” The female voice on the other end said.

“Yes, this is he.”

“Adam, I have some information on the missing gem. Meet me tonight at the Italian Cuisine.” The Italian Cuisine was a restaurant on the other side of town.

“What time?”

“Seven, and be on time.”

How will I recognize you?”

“Just tell your name to the waiter. He will direct you to my table.”

“Okay.” I said. I went to say good-bye, but she cut me off. I hung up the phone. Walking back into the living room, Tracy asked me, “And who was that?”

“I don’t know. An informant, maybe.”

“What did he want?”

“Well, she wanted me to meet her tonight at the Italian Cuisine. Seems she hat some information.”

“We had better be careful.”

“I don’t that think that we should go.”

“Oh.” Tracy said, turning away.

“No, Tracy, you don’t understand.” I said, grabbing her shoulders as she walked away. “I must do this, if you were to come it could scare her away.”

“Okay, I guess Kristin and I could get to know each other better.” She said.
