“You’re kidding.”
“You want to see? Call Tricia and tell her that I want her to come out here tonight to go over some information I have. If she doesn’t go ‘ga-ga’ over me, I’ll be shocked.”
“Okay.” She said, getting up.
“The only thing good about this stuff is that if the girl goes out of range, she becomes normal, but just to be on the safe side, I beg you to answer the phone from now until Thursday.”
“Sure. After all, what am I being paid for?” She said, going to the phone. She dialed Tricia’s number, and told her to come the next day. Just as she hung up, the phone rang and she picked the receiver back up.
“Who was that?” I asked when she was done.
“That was Amanda. She wants you to come over and have dinner with her tomorrow night.”
“And how do you suggest I do that?”
“Very carefully.”
“Ha ha. One step into her house, and she’ll be all over me.”
“True, but it’s probably the only way to find the location of the gem.”
“You know, you probably are right. I guess I will.” I said. “I wonder how Tracy and Kristin are doing.”
“I haven’t heard from them since they left.”
“That sure is odd. We’d better pray for them.” We agreed, and retired for the night.
The next morning, I got up and dressed. I went downstairs and sat on the sofa, reading the paper. Karin came out and served me breakfast. “How’s the cold, Karin?”
“Getting worse. I’m afraid I might have to take the afternoon off.”
“Well, I don’t want to sound mean, but that’s good. When is Tricia expected?”
“Right about,” she paused, “now!” She said as the doorbell rang.
“Karin, you never cease to amaze me. Are you ready to see what I told you last night?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” She said. She went to the door, and opened it. Tricia walked in and sat across from me.
“You wanted to see me?” Tricia asked.
“Aren’t you going to throw yourself upon me like all the others?”
“Throw myself upon you?!”
“Ha! Some formula!” Karin said.
“Wait. I don’t understand. You should be all mushy right about now.”
“Huh?”
“I’m going to give Noah a call.” I said. I picked up the phone and called Noah. “Hello, Noah?”
“Yes. Adam, why are you calling me? You didn’t drop the vial, did you?”
“No, I didn’t, but I did get a drop on me.”
“So what’s the problem, too many girls for you?”
“No, Tricia is not effective.”
“Ooo, Adam, I thought you loved Tracy. I never thought that you really wanted Tricia.”
“Noah, cut the talk and listen. It’s not affecting Tricia or Karin, but it is everyone else. Karin has a cold, and that is why she’s not affected, but what about Tricia?”
“Does she have smelly feet too?”
“Noah, now what kind of dumb question is that? Could it be something she ate?”
