“A friendly game of poker in the back room.”
“I suppose.”
“But no muscle, hear?”
“Ah. How about my girl?”
“The broad can’t either.”
“Ah. I don’t know about that.”
“Sorry, either no one but you, or not at all.”
“I’ll ask her when she returns.”
“Fine. Meet me over there.” He said, pointing at a door in the far corner. I nodded, and he got up and headed in that direction. In a little while, Tracy returned.
“I want you to stay out here with Joel. I’ve been invited in a poker game.” I snapped my fingers and Joel came over.
“But I wanna stay with you.”
“Sorry doll, but I gotta do this one alone.” She bent over the table and whispered in my ear. “Be careful. I love you.” Then she kissed me.
“Trust me.” I whispered back. Joel took my seat, and I went toward the door. I knocked on in, and they let me in. I took my seat across from the man who had first let me in.
“What’s your pleasure?” He asked. We played for hours, enough time for me to clean out the others.
“Now, you can either come up with the bread now, or I’ll take a favor.”
“And what kind of favor would that be?”
“I want the news on the Glowing Gem.”
“The DG?”
“DG?”
“Yeah, the DG, the GG, or the Glowing Gem. Yeah, I’ve heard about it.”
“See if you can find out where it’s at. I’ll be back.” I said to them. We left the building and returned to my house.
“So, dear, what’s your plan?” Tracy asked me, after my “muscle” left.
“Simple. You see, those guys down there are looking for the DG for me.”
“The DG?”
“The Double G or GG or Glowing Gem.”
“Ahh! I see.”
“Said the blind man, when he picked up his hammer and saw, but anyway…”
“But what if instead of finding it, they inform those two guys about you looking for it?”
“Well, that’s eventually what I want to happen. But just in case, I’m going to send Joel down every night to see if they’ve found it yet. Then we’ll make our second appearance.”
“And in the meantime?”
“In the meantime, we do things like normal, looking for the Gem. Now, I think it’s time for us to turn in.” I said, yawning. I walked Tracy to the guest room, where she had moved to let Kristin have the pink room. I kissed her, and then went upstairs to bed.
The next morning, we all woke up, and because it was a Snow Day, Kristin asked, “Dad, would it be all right if Katie and I went to the mall?”
“I don’t see why not. Just don’t spend too much.”
