The End of Detective Schofield? – Page 3

The next day was Sunday, and nothing much eventful happened for me, but Tricia and Kristin were coming up with a plan. They did not want me to give up so easily, and Kristin happened to know a little about our captors at the club. She didn’t tell me because I claimed I was off the case. Tricia was determined not to give up.
Kristin told Tricia the location of the two men, so they decided to pay these two gentlemen a visit. I didn’t know about it because when Kristin asked to leave she asked, “Could Katie and I go with Aunt Tricia to the mall?”
“I don’t see why not. Just don’t spend too much money now.”
“We won’t.” Tricia added. They got up and left. They went to the mall, to authenticate their story, but then they went to the house of the two men. Unfortunately, neither was there, but they left a map of Las Vegas with drawings on it on their table. Tricia thought that they were going to try and sell the gem there, and decided to follow. Making herself up differently, she bid farewell to the girls, dropping them off at my house. She told them that she was going to look for another job. After all, she was now a detective. She got on the next flight to Las Vegas and was gone.
When the girls came in, I asked them, “Where did Tricia go?”
“She said that since she was now out of a job, she was going to have to find something to do, so she went looking,” Kristin said. For some reason, I doubted it– maybe because I knew Tricia better than that. Never the less, I took her at her word and gave up trying to find her location. The two girls went up to Kristin’s room.
“What is Noah going to do now that you aren’t paying him?” Tracy asked.
“I don’t know. I guess he’ll have to contract himself out. For now, he’s so consumed with the baby coming that he can’t think about anything else.”
“That reminds me, what about Theresa?”
“She’ll continue to work for them. I can’t send her back to South America, can I?”
“I guess not.” We went to church that night and came back home. I invited Noah and Laura to come over and play cards. They did, and they beat us. We then went to bed. As I was going into my room, I glanced toward Tracy’s door. I don’t like keeping her in the dark like this, but I don’t want her to get hurt, I thought. I went into my room and went to sleep.
