The End of Detective Schofield? – Page 4

The next morning, I got up and went downstairs for breakfast. Tracy came down and asked me, “So, what are your plans for today?”
“Well, I was going to do some more job hunting, unless you have something better in mind?”
“Well… You could stay home and work on your story.”
“I deleted it.”
“You what!”
“Yes. I don’t want to remember anything of the past.”
“Oh.”
“I really must go.”
“All right.” She said, rather sad. I went out to Sampson’s Outlet Store, trying to get a job.
“Sam, mon ami!” I said to the owner.
“Hey! What’s up?” Sam replied.
“Hey Sam, I need a favor.”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“Could we step into your office for a minute?”
“Sure.” We did, and I explained to him that I needed a job in title only, and that I’d need somewhere to go for the first few days, even if I didn’t work, just to make it look good. I explained that I was on a case, and no one was to know. “Hard core,” he said. “Sure, I can do it.”
“Great. Then what do you say, can I start tomorrow?”
“Sure. See you then.” Happy with landing the job, I returned home. When I got there, I saw that Tracy was packing to leave. I grabbed her shoulder as she went up the stairs.
“Where are you going?”
“My mom wants me to go home and tell her our plans for the wedding.”
“But honey…”
“It’ll only be for a few days.”
“Can’t you just tell her on the phone?”
“No. She wants to help me pick out a wedding dress.”
“Oh. I see.”
“Will you be all right here?”
“Sure. Fine.” I stated. She kissed me.
“I’ll be back, don’t worry.” She smiled and continued packing. I sat around for lunch, wondering what I had done. I hoped that I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings, at least not too much. We ate, and Tracy said that she was leaving the next day.
“What about our duet?”
“I’ll work on it at home. When I come back, I’ll have it down pat.”
“All right.” Kristin came home, and we went to practice. Once there, we informed Marie that Tracy was going home, and she inquired about Tricia. I told her that I knew nothing of her whereabouts, and that I wasn’t sure when she would be back.
We had another late dinner, and then went to bed.
