The rest of the week flew by, until it came to Saturday. I went to phone, and dialed Noah’s number. “Are you ready?” I asked him.

“I guess.” He replied. “I didn’t think that we’d start until tonight.”

“Well, this thing’s going to take some planning. I figured that we would go over what we are going to do tonight this afternoon. Just think. You and I, together once more.”

“Just like the good old days.” Noah said. As he said this, Kristin came down the stairs.

“No girls. Just you, me, and the job.”

“Who are you talking to, Dad?” Kristin asked.

“Talk to you later, Noah.” I said into the phone. “That was Noah, dear.”

“Are you going somewhere?”

“Noah and I were thinking about going somewhere tonight.”

“Can I come along?”

“Well, I’ll ask Noah when I see him this afternoon.”

“Can Katie come over this afternoon?”

“Is Karin going to be around?”

“I am,” Karin said, entering the room.

“Then I don’t see why not.”

“Thanks, Dad.” Kristin responded, going to the phone. She picked it up and called Katie. From the reaction Kristin had, it looked as though Katie would come over. Meanwhile, I had to decide what to do about our plan, and Kristin, tonight.

Lunch came and went, and with that over, I went over to Noah’s house. He led me in, and we went into the basement. “Here’s what I was thinking,” Noah started, “We can show up as ourselves since nobody down there has seen us like we really are.”

“No, Noah. What if someone recognized one of us? Then my cover would be ruined, and who knows what would happen to the DG.”

“Good point.”

“Noah — while I’m thinking about it — I’ve got some bad news.”

“No. You didn’t! You dropped NLP 2.1 all over everywhere!!!”

“No. Nothing like that. Kristin overheard that we were going out tonight, and asked to tag along.”

“Just tell her that it’s a guy thing.”

“Yes, but…”

“Or just bring her along.”

“Bring her along!”

“Yeah, bring her and Katie. We’ll pretend that they’re our girl friends.”

“Noah, you still have a warped imagination.”

“No, seriously. If we bring them along, they might be able to help us.”

“But Noah, the original reason I established not to bring them along was so that they wouldn’t get hurt. Plus, that would make two more people that would know that I haven’t given up detective work.”

“But Adam, she’s safer with you than in a house all by herself, isn’t she?”
