Kristin and Katie: Our Girlfriends? – Page 2

“You do have a point there.”
“No kidding. Anyway, Kristin’s a smart kid, and quick too. I think that she could help us a lot.”
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, er, umm, I mean, house, Kristin and Katie were having a conversation of their own. “I just don’t understand it. One day he is determined to get the Glowing Gem no matter what the cost. The next, he’s quit the detective business altogether.” Kristin stated.
“Hmm. That does seem strange. And where is he this afternoon?” Katie replied.
“He’s over at Noah’s house.”
“Oh. Where’s Tricia and Tracy?”
“Tracy’s back home, or that is at least what Dad told me. I don’t know where Tricia is at all.”
“If I didn’t know them better, I’d think that they were keeping something from us.” Katie said.
“They probably think that we’re keeping something from them.” I said to Noah.
“If I were them, I’d think so too. Go home and get them.” Noah said.
“All right, I guess I’ll talk to her and see what’s up.”
“I guess I’ll talk to him when he gets home and see what’s up.” Kristin said. I arrived home, and walked in the door. “I bet that’s him now.” She replied. They both walked down the stairs, and Kristin said, “Dad, I want to talk to you.”
“Kristin, I’d like to talk to you and Katie for a moment, could we step into the music room.”
“Fine.” Kristin said, looking at Katie with surprise. Once inside, we both said you go first at the same time, and then we decided that I’d go first.
“Kristin, Katie,” I said, looking at the door to make sure it was closed. “I haven’t really given up on the DG. I’ve just been putting up a front like I had given up, and I had to make it look authentic. No one but you two and Noah know about it.”
“Go on.” She said.
“Well, that’s about it. Noah and I are planning to go out on the town tonight to make our presence known, and maybe we can find it.”
“And…”
“And Noah suggested that we take you two along with us, if you wanted to go.”
“Would we!” Katie replied.
“You would be our girlfriends.”
“Your girlfriends! This was Noah’s idea, right?” Kristin said.
“How’d you guess. Anyway, you would have to put on a little makeup, but not much. The important thing would be to look very attractive.” I stated.
“I see. Kinda like going to the prom.” Katie replied.
“Right, except you don’t need to wear a tent.” I said.
“I don’t know. Let us talk it over for a second.” Kristin said, as they turned toward each other. Quickly they turned back around. “Okay, we’ll do it.” They said.
“You’d better get permission from Katie’s parents.”
“Oh, that’ll be fine. They trust you.” Katie said.
